Description:
International Harvester M1 Garand, serial number 44500xx, manufactured around 1953. LMR barrel dated February 1953 with a bright bore. All other marked parts are IHC, no import marks.
 
This M1 Garand is in very good+ used condition.  We believe all wood and metal finish is original.
 
The rifle has been disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and test fired. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled.
 
Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) and canvas repro sling are included.

  • Receiver: marked “IHC D6528291-A” on leg. Exc condition, no pitting, moderate finish wear. Marked on top with serial number and “U.S. RIFLE CAL. 30 M1 INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER”.
  • Barrel: marked “LMR D6535448 2 53 A8” and punch mark, with “M” and 3 “P” marks and a small stars and eagle stamp. Bore is bright, crown and riflings excellent. External finish shows some wear on exposed section, no pitting. Chrome pads at gas port. Chamber is in the white.
  • Barrel Gauge Measurements: Muzzle Wear (MW): 3/4 Throat Erosion (TE):  2
  • Op rod: marked “D6535382 IHC.” Parkerized finish is in good condition, with moderate wear from use, no pitting. Op rod and bolt cycle freely by tilting when everything is assembled except main spring and hammer (Garands with binding or rubbing op rods tend to have feeding and/or ejecting problems).
  • Op rod catch: late type, marked “B”
  • Bullet guide: stamped with notch, unmarked
  • Follower: late type, unmarked
  • Follower arm: no bevel, unmarked
  • Follower rod: long fork, riveted, unmarked
  • Bolt: marked “D6528287 IHC U”
  • Firing pin: half round, no chrome tip
  • Clip latch: late square front type, unmarked
  • Rear sight base: marked “C” on bottom
  • Elevation knob: marked “IHC” with Weatherhead logo
  • Windage knob: marked “IHC DRC”
  • Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
  • Rear sight aperture: HRA/SA/IHC type, double track
  • Trigger housing: marked “IHC D6528290”. Small pad, cloverleaf hole, no pitting, some finish wear
  • Trigger guard: stamped with stamped hook, unmarked
  • Trigger: late type, no extra hole, unmarked
  • Hammer: marked “C-5546008 IHC”
  • Hammer spring plunger: postwar type, no wings
  • Safety: marked “IHC”
  • Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring, unmarked. Gas cylinder group finish is in very good condition.
  • Front sight: 0.885 wide
  • Gas cylinder lock: “high hump” grenade launcher type
  • Gas cylinder lock screw: cross slot, grenade launcher type, marked “NHC”
  • Stock: walnut, IHC. Has circled “P” on pistol grip, stars and eagle (DOD) stamp on left side, and is marked inside “0425”. Has characteristic IHC cut below the windage knob. Has remnants of a painted rack number near the buttplate. No buttplate overhang. No cracks, fewer than average dings/scratches. Overall very nice appearance.
  • Handguards: walnut, no cracks, similar condition and appearance as stock.
  • Buttplate: postwar round plunger type, very good condition
  • Stock ferrule: large hole type
