Description:
L.C. Smith Eagle 20 Gauge Side-by-Side
RARE, 1 OF 76, 60% CASE COLOR, 5LBS. 14OZ.

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1932, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 14oz, SxS
Serial Number: 136357

Hunter Arms Co. Inc. was the maker of the only successful American sidelock double shotgun, the L.C. Smith.  As a maker of double guns L.C. Smith was rather prolific with over 528,000 guns made in total (compared to 250,000 Parkers, Lefever Arms Co. about 60,000, A.H. Fox Gun Co. about 150,000, Ithaca about 500,000).  Here we have a very rare L.C. Smith in the 20ga. Eagle Grade.  When I say rare, I mean really…its rare!  Total production of the L.C. Smith Eagle Grade in 20ga. was 76 guns.  There are likely less than 65 of these guns left in the world.  Of those that remain many have been bastardized in some way, ie cut stocks or barrels, poorly restocked, poorly refinished, etc.  This Eagle Grade Elsie, snFWE136537 made in 1932, has many outstanding features including all factory parts with a very long length of pull on the factory buttstock at 14 ½” LOP FROM THE REAR TRIGGER POSITION TO THE FACTORY BUTT PLATE.  I have disassembled this gun and the wood is original to the gun, recently restored with a fine, hand-rubbed oil finish and perfectly recut checkering, no cracks or splits, perfect wood-to-metal-fit, nice shooting dimensions.  The 26” barrels are in excellent condition with factory IC/M chokes, perfect mirror bores, no dents or dings, and retaining 98% factory blue.  With the gorgeous European walnut and handsome, unique engraving, it is a stunning gun to have in hand.  The mechanics are superb, with strong well-timed ejectors, crisp Hunter One trigger that operates perfectly, the barrels are tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun.  The L.C. Smith guns are wonderful handling guns and this one is a rare find as it weighs just 5lbs. 14oz., about 1/2lb. lighter than most, even with the long LOP.  This is a grand opportunity to invest your funds into hard, tangible assets that you can enjoy shooting at the local club or afield for upland birds.  Shooting with a gun like this elevates your time afield or at the range in a way you need to experience to understand.  The history behind the gun, the hand fitting and balancing, all come together in this rare and delightful little Elsie.  Thanks for looking!
