Description:
A fabulous and rare WW Greener Imperial Grade Facile Princeps 12 gauge game gun. Serial number 46XXX. 30" bbls marked "W.W. Greener 68 Haymarket London. Greener's Wrought Steel Indestructible Steel By Gunpowder". Ejectors. Coked CYL/MOD and 2 5/8" chambers.  Anson Deeley forend release.  Double triggers. Unchecked top rib with vignette of a heron and scroll chevrons at breech ends.

Distinctive scroll-back (scalloped) box-lock action with exquisite full coverage game scene and fine scroll engraving. Game scenes feature three pheasants on right side, two pheasants on left side, two rabbits on bottom, and two English setters on triggerguard.  .Characteristic Imperial grade "sea shell" carved fences.  Top tang with golden crown and gold scepter. Remarkable Greener cross bolt that hides within the bolster and does not protrude when opened. Greener side-safety with "safe" in gold.

Beautifully figured English walnut straight grip stock with matching horn-tipped splinter forend.  Complex and well-executed opposing spear point horn inlays at wrist. Gold initial oval with indiscernible monogram letters.  5/8" sling swivel on stock and barrel. Lightly struck Swiss cross on right rear portion of stock and indiscernible cartouche just behind action on right side. This gun was located in Switzerland for many years and obviously was part of a royal or significant collection.  14 1/2" LOP over finely checkered horn buttplate, 1 5/8" DAC, 2 3/8 DAH, approx 1/4" cast-off.

Cased in a period leather trunk case.

Condition: Gun is in overall very nice condition as partially refinished. Barrels have London quality re-black with barrel engraving slightly thinned. Action engraving crisp. Wood maintains most all of what appears to be its original finish. Barrels on-face and tight. Ejectors strong.  Case has beautiful vintage patina and is in very good shape. Interior appears to be re-lined w/ Greener label showing a later address.
