Description:
Produced by the Eli Whitney Company of New Haven, Connecticut, commonly known as the “Mississippi Rifle.” This arm, one of just 5,000 pieces, was altered by the Colt factory in Hartford during late 1861. Lock marked E.WHITNEY/US/NHAVEN 1854.
Originally fitted with a 33" round barrel in .54 caliber the bore was expanded to .58 at the time of the Colt conversion. Conversion involved replacement of the rear "V" notch sight with the Colt folding leaf model and the addition of the Colt bayonet lug. Stock has one repair located beneath the hammer against the nipple base. Contact us with any questions. Reduced 6/06/2019.
