This is a 1900 dated, Oberndorf-made rifle, converted to 1938 Short Rifle specs, and retains 85-90% of the original blue finish on the metal with mild fading along the exposed edges as well as on the sides at the threaded muzzle, and on the triggerguard/floorplate assembly. The numbers are all matching, including the bolt components and buttplate, and the original combat rear sight slider has been removed and a Swedish dial-adjusted target sight has been installed in its place. The front sight is a high target blade, and a small import stamp is present on the right side of the barrel. The stock is in fine overall condition with only minor handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the varnish finish. Additionally, there is a sanded area at the nosecap where a small chip of wood is missing. The stock disk lists the gun as an arsenal condition “3” with nominal bore diameter of 6.5mm exactly, and the metal rifle grenade range table is still affixed to the right side of the stock. A period leather sling is installed, as is a metal thread cover at the muzzle, and a correct, mis-matched cleaning rod is also included. This is a fine example of an M/96 Swedish Mauser, converted to a target service rifle, and would make a great addition to a collection.
