Description:
This 2nd Model Dragoon, serial number 9383, was manufactured in the 1850-51 time frame, and with only 2,700 of this variation being made, it is the scarcest of the three models. It is easily distinguished by the square back trigger-guard found on the 1st Model Dragoon and the Walker, and the square bolt notches on the cylinder instead of the earlier round design. With little or no original finish, the exterior metal surfaces remain in very good condition. In addition to the barrel address, Colt Patent marking, and serial numbers, the cylinder still shows some images of the original Ranger and Indian scene, which is rare as these guns saw hard use in the southwest and the Civil War. All serial numbers are matching, except there is no number on the wedge which is probably an old replacement. Overall, it has a very nice look and is mechanically perfect. The bore has some light pitting, but no more than would be expected from one of these early .44 caliber revolvers.
