ENGRAVED Antique EUROPEAN Percussion Belt Pistol
HANDSOME Gentleman’s Pistol from the CONTINENT
Here we present an antique European Percussion Pistol, made circa 1840 in Liege, Belgium. Belt-sized pistols like these were used to defend oneself when traveling or in public places. It was big enough to fight with, but not so large as to be cumbersome. They could be both as handsome or as plain as one desired or could afford.
This specimen features a octagonal, fine twist Damascus barrel with a .67 inch bore. The barrel is Liege proofed on the left side of the barrel flat. The lock, hammer, trigger guard and barrel tang are very nicely engraved. The pommel features a scalloped clamshell door opening to a compartment filled with percussion caps. The stock has been very uniquely checkered, giving this gun lots of character.
The overall condition is very good. The fine twist Damascus barrel maintains nice patterning. The engraving is sharp and clean. The stock is solid and in fine condition. The checkering is sharp. The bore is in very good condition and the action is fine.
