Here we present an antique Bacon & Company Underhammer Single Shot Pistol, made circa 1850 in Norwich, Connecticut. Less than 500 are estimated to have been made, making this a very rare specimen. Thomas K. Bacon was the founder of the company and was also involved with the Manhattan Fire Arms Co. as the superintendent. He also had business dealings with Ethan Allen and Allen & Thurber. When Manhattan moved their operation away from Norwich, Bacon left the company to stay behind and work on his own firearms manufacturing company. Part of Bacon’s contract with Manhattan included a “no-compete” clause that he would have been in violation of had the heads of Manhattan had bothered to sign the agreement. Nevertheless, they still took him to court with no official judgement recorded. Bacon’s arms were popular on the commercial market and many made their way onto Civil War battlefields upon being privately purchased by soldiers. The overall condition of the piece is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The grips are solid and in good condition. The number “36” is located under the barrel and on the frame under the grips. Bore is in good condition. The action is functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4 inches in length. Caliber: .34 percussion Bore is in good condition and the action is functional. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a rare Bacon Underhammer for your collection. Very Fast. Very Safe.
