c1840 ENGLISH Antique WESTWOOD Boot Pistol
LONDON Made 19th Century Conceal Carry Gun
Here we present an antique Westwood Percussion Boot Pistol, made circa 1840 in London, England. This type of pistol was very popular in 19th Century Europe, as well as the colonies. It could be stowed in the top of a boot, the belt, waistband or even a large pocket. It was of course, made primarily for self-defense, and very well would tell stories if it could. Much happened in Britain, in its colonies and abroad during this period.
This specimen is marked “WESTWOOD” and “LONDON” on the frame. The smooth bore barrel twists off, making loading a much easier task than jamming a ball down the muzzle. This allowed the shooter to use a larger diameter ball, creating a better gas seal for more efficiency from a small gun.
The overall condition is very good. The iron is smooth and dark, with the markings and light engraving in fine shape. The grip is in very good condition and the bore is good. The action is excellent.
