This is one of the 25,000 Starr Single Action revolvers purchased by the U.S. Government during the Civil War, it was a major competitor of both the 1858 Remington and 1860 Colt Army revolvers. This 1863 Starr is mechanically sound and has some traces of the original blue finish mixed with a uniform gray patina. The original wooden grips are in good shape with both sides still showing the U.S. inspectors cartouches. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and the cylinder has great bores and nipples in great shape as well. All parts that are numbered match and this revolver does not appear to ever have been messed with or been "improved" in any way. This is a very collectible Civil War revolver that is still in good shape and was so well built it could be shot even today!
