Description:
Reduced price. Owner is anxious to sell.
English boxlock spring-bayonet blunderbuss pistol in very good unrestored condition.
Frame and barrel made and proof-tested in Birmingham for William Thomas Bond (1), gunmaker of Lombard Street, London.
This is no pocket pistol. It weighs 2 lbs. 3.5 oz. and is 12.5 inches long – 17.3 with the bayonet deployed. The bore is .52, widening to .85 at the muzzle over the last 2.5 inches.  It would probably have been loaded with swan shot.
It was converted from flintlock – quite well – and shows little wear; the engraving is mostly sharp. The brass barrel is in excellent condition, with clear proof marks. There is a brazed repair to the hammer spur, the bayonet spring is weak (the main spring is very strong), and the wood has some dents and dings, no cracks. A small cut on the right side has been repaired with a slip of wood or perhaps putty. There is a blank escutcheon. The ramrod is missing.
