UNALTERED, RARE 1896 KRAG SADDLE RING CARBINE, #68XXX, MADE 1897, all Krag carbines have become really difficult to find as interest in the Spanish-American War period has increased significantly over the last several years, this one is uncleaned and unmessed with, it retains exc. markings on the mottled receiver, good blue on the extractor, fine thinning barrel blue mixing with some gray, but never touched up or "helped", correct "C" marked carbine rear sight, exc. reddish brown walnut with good circle P cartouche behind the trigger guard and a faint outline of the stock cartouche behind the ring bar, tight action with generally excellent bore free of pitting, needs ring for ring bar only, exc. stock and handguard with tight wood to metal fit that has never been sanded or cleaned, two sling swivel attachments were added at some time in the distant past- these are both held in by two very small screws that could easily be removed and filled or just left as is- no inletting was done, just small screws put in to hold the swivel attachments, trap in the butt stock contains a cord pull-through bore cleaner, correct 1896 sight protector barrel band, a really nice example of a super hard to find U.S. carbine, in fact the last to be made with the saddle/sling ring!
