Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: HARD TO FIND BIG MODEL 1895 OCTAGON RIFLE #135XXX, MADE 1896 IN .38-56 CALIBER, whenever I get a rifle in this caliber I always try to explain that this was a big .38 caliber chambering not to be confused with the more common .38-55 which is no more than a straight walled .30WCF (.30-30) case that held only 42-45 grains of black powder compared to the .38-56 that is a necked down .45-70 case and held a full 56 grains of black powder, in its day it was considered quite a powerful loading, this is nice condition antique serial number rifle with fine aged barrel and mag blue with some age thinning/mixing with brown, exc. markings, mottled gray/brown receiver with small traces of case color in the most protected areas and under the lever, tight action, original buckhorn rear sight with high blade Marble front sight along with a desirable Lyman tang sight, excellent walnut stock and forend with only very light handling marks and tight wood to metal fit, bore is a little dark but should clean about exc., fine blue on the loading gate, a very hard to find and desirable Marlin model.
