Antique Allen & Thurber Single Shot Boot Pistol
Serial #11, Civil War-era Percussion Pistol
Here we present an antique Single Shot Percussion Pocket Pistol, made by Allen & Thurber, circa 1840 in Worcester, Massachusetts. This pistol was designed for close quarters self-defense in 19th Century America. It would have been the type of weapon that was stuck in the top of a boot or belt. This type was made from about 1840 to the early 1860s, the period of the American Civil War. Only a few thousand were produced.
This one is serial number “11”. It features a half-octagon, half-round barrel of 5 inches. It is marked “ALLEN & THURBER/WORCESTER/CAST STEEL”. The barrel, trigger guard and frame under the grips are numbered “11”.
The overall condition of this piece is very good. There is a dark patina throughout. Markings are clear. The numbers match, including grips. The walnut grips are in good condition. The bore is rifled and clean. The action is strong.
