Description:

FRENCH Antique CHARLEVILLE M1822 DRAGOON Pistol

Fine Condition Percussion Horse Pistol

Here we present an antique Charleville Model 1822 Pistol, made in flintlock circa 1822 and later converted to percussion, circa 1840. This pistol saw a long service life and witnessed much turmoil and regime change. It was designed for use by horse mounted soldiers and conflicts of the period include those within France, such as the July Revolution, as well as northern Africa, with the conquest of Algeria and the war with Morocco.

This pistol features a huge .69 caliber bore and a sturdy construction. The conversion to percussion consisted of a round bolster added to the top of the barrel, through which a percussion nipple was threaded. The hammer is gigantic with a high spur. A lanyard ring is attached at the bottom of the pommel. Numerous proof and inspection marks are found on virtually every piece of this firearm, especially the barrel.

The overall condition is fine. The iron parts of the weapon have darkened with age. The markings are still clear and legible. The stock is in fine condition and solid. The bore is very good and the action is excellent.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 8 inches in length.

Caliber: .69 percussion

Bore is in very good condition. The firing mechanism is excellent.

Overall condition as seen in photos.

Here is a French 1822 converted to percussion that saw a lot of history pass by in the first half of the 19th Century.
