Description:
This Steyr was customized by a previous owner by inletting different types of wood to form a portrait of a Big Horn Sheep in the buttstock, and two geometric designs on either side of the stock below the receiver. This Model 1952 Improved Carbine is very attractive and features a two-leaf express style rear sight(100m&300m), fully adjustable double-set triggers, a full length stock with a 20 inch barrel, and claw style quick release scope mounts. The barrel and metal parts retain 95% of the original Steyr factory bright blue finish. The double set triggers work perfectly and the action is smooth and tight. The bore in this rifle is perfect; bright with sharp lands and grooves and no signs of pitting or erosion. It appears that this rifle was shot very little. The customized stock is solid but has several small cracks in it on either side of the receiver. These were no doubt a result of the inlays being inserted in a naturally thin area of the stock. These apparently have been professionally repaired some time ago using an epoxy bedding compound to stabilize the cracks and reinforce the wood from the inside. These Steyr Mannlicher Shoenauer rifles exhibit some of the finest materials and workmanship ever used in a sporting rifle and compare favorably to even the finest rifles made today. If you have been looking for a classy vintage rifle to take to the woods or range, or just add to your collection, this rifle would be an excellent choice.
