Description:

RARE All Metal Antique National Arms NO. 1 DERINGER

Rarest SHORT BARREL Engraved Civil War-Era Pistol

Here we present an antique National Arms Company No. 1 Deringer (also known as the All Metal No. 1), made circa 1865 in Brooklyn, New York. Only about 3,000 of these were made by National Arms before the company was purchased Colt.

This scarce little Deringer is chambered for a single shot of .41 rimfire, a likely choice for very concealable self-defense in the last half of the 19th Century. The entire barrel swivels on a hinge for loading, when the hammer is put into half cock and the release button is pushed. The hammer is split and acts as the rear sight when in full cock. These pistols were of all metal construction and silver plated. It is of historical firearms significance in that it was the first large caliber metallic cartridge Deringer. In fact, after Moore’s was purchased by the National Arms Co., the Colt Firearms Co. bought National Arms and started making the pistol in 1870!

This specimen is a great representative example of a rare gun. To make it even better, the barrel is the very rare 2-inch variant, of which hardly any exist. The frame is engraved solid brass, and the barrel is of iron. Each wears a dark untouched patina. The top of the barrel clearly reads “National Arms Co.” The bore is in very good condition. The action needs work, as the hammer moves but does not hold at cock.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
