EXCELLENT SPRINGFIELD SHARPS U.S. MODEL 1870 BREECHLOADING .50-70 CAL. INFANTRY RIFLE W/BAYONET. 35” round barrel serial numbered at the left breech.. Alteration of the Sharps Civil War Model 1863 action with Springfield Armory parts made just for this model including the barrel, stock and forend. Only 1300 manufactured and are very scarce. In excellent plus condition it retains much of the Springfield color case hardening on the lock and frame with the balance of the parts arsenal bright that is correct for this model. Rear sight with the original blue. Excellent stock and forend with fine inspector’s cartouche (ESA) at the wrist. Butt plate tang stamped “U.S.”. Excellent working order and mint bore. Only one of this type we have had in recent years. “U.S.” marked bayonet in very good condition. Original cleaning rod.
