Description:
Factory conversion of the 1858 NM .44 to .46 rimfire five shot. Frames are remachined to allow cartridge loading and to permit installation of a thin backing plate behind the cylinder, thus these conversions are all factory reblued and renumbered when converted. .46 caliber was chosen because the .458 diameter bullet was correct for the standard .44 bore. This one has no S&W patent date and was not subject to paying the royalty. Gun has 100% factory rust reblue done at time of conversion. Aged purple finish on frame is caused by Remington's using a malleable iron casting. .
