Besides being wonderfully handy, the detachable-lock system contributes to an extremely strong gun frame. For one thing, there's no reason to drill a hole all the way through the action bar for the tumbler peg, and for another, the need to mill only two narrow slots in the bar to accommodate the locks leaves more steel in the frame than you'll find in a conventional box lock. Burrard offers the opinion that "Westley Richards guns are undoubtedly the strongest, weight for weight, of all the box lock actions".
Barrels are likely re-blacked and the barrels on gun #1 have been shortened approximately 1/8".
