About Us: I am a custom gunmaker specializing in re-creating pre-World War I sporting rifles, crafted with precision and respect for tradition. Starting with quality rifles such as the Ruger No.1, Mauser, Winchester Model 70, Ruger M77, CZ, or BRNO, I transform them into sleek, slender hunting rifles inspired by the elegance of 1910 designs. I also craft the elegant Faeton Underhammer muzzleloading rifles and Model 1911 .45 Super Longslide pistols. Call me or visit my site, which is listed on some of the photos, for more information regarding my line of fine bespoke firearms. Also check out my Custom Services listing under GUNSMITHING.

Description:
PRICE REDUCED!

Here is a real rarity - the Stevens 160 was made for a very short period of time around 1908 - 1910. This is a high quality gun and not the "barn gun" type that is usually associated with Stevens. It is unique in that the action is opened by pulling the trigger! When the hammer is cocked and the trigger is pulled, the hammer drops to fire the gun. Pull the trigger again and the action opens. It is ingenious and one has to wonder why this system didn't catch on. Virtually no information is available so, other than for the fine condition, there's not much more to say about it. Perhaps someone out there knows about them and can provide more info.

The barrel is 28 inches, 16 gauge with 2 3/4" chamber, and according to the marking on the top of the barrel, it is "ELECTRO STEEL - CHOKE BORED." The bore is shiny with the exception of one small spot (about nickel-size) of light pitting about 4 inches ahead of the chamber. The gun has just a very slight bit of looseness but is certainly shootable. Oh, and yes, the front sight is bent backward. Other than that, it's really a fine shotgun.

One of the photos will display the unique hammer/trigger firing mechanism. The small "claw" ahead of the trigger unlocks the breech when the trigger is pulled a second time - that's AFTER the gun is fired.
