Antique REMINGTON-SMOOT New Model No. 3 Revolver
WILD WEST .38 Caliber 5-Shot Pocket Pistol
Here we present an antique Remington-Smoot New Model No. 3 Revolver, made circa 1880 in Ilion, New York. The years of production were 1878 to 1888, with a total of about 25,000 made. There were several variants, most of them with the so-called “saw-handle” grip. This specimen represents one of only 6,500 made with the “bird’s head” grip shape, which is shorter and more curvaceous.
This revolver was designed for defensive carry, and would have been equally at home in a holster, pocket or purse. With 5 rounds of .38, one could get themselves out of most scrapes.
The overall condition is near fine. The nickel finish is quite intact. The markings are clear and legible. The left grip panel is fine and smooth, with the right grip panel showing more wear, possibly from being more exposed to the elements by being carried on the user’s right side. The bore is in very good condition and the action is strong.
