Only 3,000 were authorized for production by Congress in fiscal year 1920. Not until 1921 were NM rifles offered for sale to the general public and the Camp Perry matches. 1925 and 1926 NRA Rifle match medals attributed to an "R.L. Butsch" come with the rifle. Pristine examples of early NM rifles are very scarce because, at the end of the year after the matches, they were dis-assembled and parts were used to build the following years' NM rifles. This rifle is one of the few that have survived in original condition and configuration. The rifle features a J6 polished bolt without a serial number. The rifle has been gently used, but very well cared for. Much of the asphaltum that was applied to the front and rear sights (to prevent glare) is still present. The stock was the correct "D.A.L." cartouche stock. The barrel is dated 1-20 and the serial is 1182100. The chamber and muzzle erosion measurements still gauge the rifle as new. The rifle has a fine-checkered buttplate and a serrated match trigger. The cutoff has block letters. The rear sight has dished windage and elevation screws. The leaf is without the 2850-yard notch. The rifles predates the use of star gauge markings. The bore is sharp and bright with no issues. This rifle has been examined by Lynn Meredith and deemed correct and original. There is no evidence that it was overhauled for the 1921 National Matches. All items are also available for sale in our brick & mortar store and are subject to prior sale. Think long, think wrong.
