Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector 2nd Model, Canadian Proofed, chambered in .45 Long Colt and fitted with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. During the 1st World War, the Smith & Wesson Company sold approximately 15,000 2nd Model Hand Ejector revolvers to the Canadian Government. The serial range of these fell between 5000 and 75000. Most all were chambered in .455 caliber, but there was a small group of 724 chambered for the .45 Colt (.45 Long Colt) cartridge. The serial number of this gun is in the 11000 range. While there is no definitive proof that this gun was one of the 724, there is no indication that it has been converted from .455 to .45 Colt. The rear of the cylinder has the matching serial number, as does the barrel, and does not appear to have been altered. Also, there is no .455 caliber marking on the barrel. The gun has been redone and now has a gray, military type parkerized finish. The mechanics are excellent and the bore is very good.
