Description:
The Colt 1855 Sidehammer Pocket Model (Root Model) was made from 1855 through 1870 with approximately 44,000 manufactured. The 5-shot revolvers were recognized by its side mounted hammer and cylinder rotation ratchet at the rear of the frame. They were fitted with either a 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 inch round or octagon barrel, one piece wraparound style walnut grips, and were blue and case-hardened finished. This gun is as described and is .28 Caliber and fitted with a 3 1/2 inch octagon barrel. Since this is a Model 2 it has the Indian/cabin cylinder scene and the Hartford barrel address with pointed hand. This is a nice example of its type, mechnically it works perfectly and disassembles and assembles easily, the bore has visible rifling, but there are some areas of corrosion. It is all numbers matching (frame, cylinder, & barrel). The walnut grips retain most of their original finish with no cracks or chips. A unique operating early Colt Single Action Percussion revolver.
