This unmarked percussion double rifle started life as a Damascus barreled 12 gauge double shotgun likely sometime in the 1840's. It featured back-action locks that were both easier to make and tough, and would have cost less at the time than some other lock styles. The barrels were twist Damascus steel and the Walnut stock was simple but attractive with a checkered wrist and metal butt plate. At some point in this gun's life, most likely the late 1800's, someone decided that it would be more useful as a double rifle. It was converted by inserting/press fitting fluid steel rifled liners into the the Damascus barrels and welding/soldering them in place. This really increased the weight of this double to over 10 lbs. The front shotgun bead was removed and replaced with a front sight post with a brass top. A rear sight was added as well, although it appears someone has replaced it with a more modern adjustable type rear blade. The hammers still go to full cock and half cock and the triggers work. This is a unique weapon that we do not run across often, and would look excellent over your fireplace as a conversation piece or in an antique collection. SOLD Antique: Yes Caliber Info: .50 Caliber |
