These Pocket Police revolvers were produced in .36 caliber (Navy) from 1861 to 1873. This example, serial number 10526, was manufactured in 1862 just in time to see extended service in the American Civil War. It has a 5 1/2 inch barrel and all matching numbers including the wedge. The original Colt factory blue finish has been worn off and the gun has turned a even gray/brown patina, and the brass backstrap and trigger guard have mellowed to an attractive dark mustard color. The original Walnut grips still retain most of their factory varnish and are free from cracks or repairs. Overall, the gun is nice and tight and everything functions as it should. The hidden two locating nipples have broken off the front of the frame, but you can't tell because the wedge holds everything together tight and in alignment. The pressed-in cylinder arbor is tight to the frame with no play in it, and it is also serial numbered (pictured). The action on this Pocket Police is "in time" and it still locks up nicely. This Colt was likely a private purchase sidearm for a Civil War soldier and there is no telling what history it has witnessed. This Pocket Police model would be a great addition to any Civil War weapons collection or an equally nice addition to any Colt collection.
