Description:
There were more 1849 Colt "Pocket" revolvers produced than any other Colt percussion model with over 330,000 manufactured between 1850 and 1873. This example is serial number 123455 and was made in 1856 with a 5 shot cylinder and 4 inch barrel. A great many of these small revolvers were carried by soldiers in the American Civil War, and many traveled West with early settlers looking to strike gold or acquire new land. This Colt Pocket model has all matching numbers and with the exception of some possible replacement screws, appears to be all original. The factory blue finish has been worn off and replaced with a gray patina, and there are just a few traces of the original silver plating remaining on the brass trigger guard and grip frame. The Walnut grips have a good bit of varnish remaining and have numerous notches carved into their edges. Whether this is for a better purchase on the grip or keeping score in something is up for speculation. The action on this Colt still works reasonably well and everything is still pretty tight. A nice well-used example of this famous Colt that likely beared witness to a lot of American history.
