Maynard Civil War Carbine 16-77
Condition: Maynard breech loading percussion carbine in .52 caliber percussion, Serial number #11622. The carbine remains in original near fine condition with 80%-90% original blue on the barrel that is dulling and toning naturally with a small amount of erosion and minimal beginning pinprick pitting that is very slight. 50% plus toning case hardening with balance going to patina. Very good plus to near fine stock with two razor sharp cartouches. The bore is excellent. Complete with all original parts and sharply marked. An unused Maynard with normal aging only. A 8.5 to 9 on a 1-10 scale. (Antique)

Manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms co., Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. 50 Caliber, Percussion, breechloader. Single shot; barrel tips, downward to load by lowering the trigger guard and pushing it forward. 20” round barrel with octagonal section at breech. Iron Mountains; blue finished with casehardened frame Walnut stock; made without forend. Designed by Dr. Edward Maynard, inventor of the mechanical system for printing firearms (utilized in the other U.S. Arms) both models will also be found in various sporting configurations, Calibers and barrel lengths.
Second Model: a.k.a. in company literature as “model 1863.” Made c. 1863-65; total about 20,202.50 caliber. Stock lacks patch box and has thin, somewhat squared profile butt plate frame right side marked MANUFACTURED BYMASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS. The left side EDWARDS MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27 1851/DEC.6 1859. Sling ring on the left side of the frame; government inspector markings on the left side of stock. Among the Union cavalry regiments armed with it were 9th and 11th Indiana and 11th Tennessee.
