Description:
This is a War of 1812, 1795 Pattern U.S. Springfield Type III date stamped 1812, 3-band musket, 44.5" .69 Caliber smoothbore barrel and 60" overall. Untouched, all original FINE TO VERY FINE CONDITION. Nicely patinaed metal that's mottled from light to darker brown with the proper proof and US stampings on the breech including "SNY" (State of New York) on top of the breech with a deep "S" to faded out "Y" - nervertheless obvious what it's supposed to be. Nice untouched original finished stock with faint but readible "VP" cartouche on left side. On both sides of upper tang near breech are two period square brass tacks or brads, one on each side for some unknown reason as there are no signs of cracking; possibly there for quick identification. Below the top tang are 3 small period square tacks or brads that are all together; one appears to be copper and the other two brass that appear to be over an insignificant little-finger nail size very faint crescent shape hairline surface crack. The left side of the stock has very noticeable period style lettering of the initials "JD." The cock is correct for a 1795 date stamped 1812 Type III. The cock contains a correctly shaped used flint that is properly cushioned in place by a period leather swatch that is still supple. The cock indexes strongly and perfectly with a nice tightly tensioned spring - tight as a drum. Everything functions perfectly. The touch hole is clean and clear. Original ram rod with threaded bottom end. If you are a collector of Springfields of this historic period, then you are well aware that this specimen is in exceptionally fine museum-quality condition; a rarity as most being purported as FINE, have had its metal shamefully scoured down to the white, usually with unsightly stiration marks, and with wood that was steel wooled or sanded and refinished, or, they're untouched, but in fair to good condition at best. Please call if you have any questions. Acceptable payment methods only: U.S. Postal Money Orders; or Certified Bank Cashier's Check only from the nation-wide major banking institutions such as BOA, Chase, Wells Fargo. $75.00 Shipping that includes insurance for the lower 48. Alaska and Hawaii priced accordingly to be determined. 3-day inspection. Buyer pays for return shipping and insurance. Must be returned in absolutely the same condition as when initially shipped by the seller. Please call if you have any questions (909) 268-2346.  I have a lot more photos that I could not post here as only 15 are allowed, so email for additional.
