Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Sporting Rifle .44-40wcf with factory 24 inch Octagon barrel. The serial number of this early First Model is 951X placing date of manufacture in early 1875. The Buffalo Bill Museum Letter that will accompany this rifle provides the description at the time it was shipped from the factory Warehouse: Serial number application date: Not available, Type: Rifle, Barrel type: Octagon, trigger: Set, Received in the Warehouse on September 22, 1875, Shipped from the Warehouse: September 22, 1875, Order number: 4025. No information on R&R... Overall condition is very good. The original untouched factory finish has toned to a very nice blue/grey patina. Original factory blue will be found in protected areas. Case colors can be seen on the protected areas of the lever and hammer. The bore is way above average. The rifling is strong with shine from breech to muzzle. The bore will rate an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. The "Single Set Trigger" is mechanically perfect. Very nice early First Model.
