Description:
SOLD  ** Chapuis Safari Express with wood upgrade, 470 N.E. -- Near Mint Condition

CHAPUIS Safari Express, 470 Nitro Express – German claw mounts for quick removal of the renowned Austrian-made Kahles Helia C 30mm 1.1-4x24 scope. This double rifle model has polished coin finished case-hardened receiver, full-coverage hand engraving (not border engraving) by master engraver, Ivan Thierry, and fancy upgrade of dense dark walnut with strong figure, reminiscent of those found on Holland & Holland rifles. This model is a step above the Brousse and the PH1, in between those and the Safari Express EL and the Jungle models.   Included are the maker’s case and accessories. This exact gun is shown on YouTube, Special Guns with Roger Rule, Episode 4. Start with rogerrule ..

The features that separate this from the Brousse model are: leather-covered recoil pad, stock with more figure, vacant oval for owner’s initials, and trapdoor pistol grip cap for an extra front sight. The addition of the world-class German claw mounts and Austrian 30mm scope make it completely African-ready.

The big Double has 23 5/8" ejector barrels with quarter rib fitted with rear sights (1 standing & 3 folding leaves), double triggers, bolstered frame, bushed strikers, scalloped action back.

The stock exhibits dense wood with great figure and strong color and contrasts. Beavertail forend, open pistol grip stock with Holland & Holland shadowline cheekpiece, rolled-edge trigger guard with tang extending to steel engraved trapdoor grip cap plus 3 tie-down screws in the guard strap and sling eyes.

I couldn’t put it better than George Caswell of Champlin Firearms when he
“The Best Tough Current Double in the great 470 Nitro Express. Champlin Firearms has handled more Double Rifles than any Dealer in the World and we feel this is the best buy in any current made serious Dangerous Game double. We have had every current made boxlock double rifle in our shop, have shot them all, worked on all, had all of them apart and we know for fact that you can't buy a better one for the money than a Chapuis… (we) hunt with and shoot a lot of double rifles. We flat know this is one tough, attractive, high precision, go to Africa and have money left for the second Buffalo type of gun. I challenge you to show me a better current double rifle for the money. ”

This practically new Chapuis Safari Express double rifle in .470 NE is a true African dangerous game gun, envied world-over by professional hunters. The multiple-leaf safari type sight gives a fixed "close" point of aim and then three folding leaves sighted at 100, 150, and 200 yards. The checkered butt stock features a slight palm swell for the right handed shooter. When opened, fired cases are ejected and unfired cases are extracted.

LOP is 14.5” over 1" leather covered recoil pad, weight is 11 lbs. 8 oz. without scope, 12 lbs. 12 oz. with scope, the desired weight for the recoil of the .470 N.E. Comes with maker’s leather case. This is a 99% gun, near new for both wood finish and metal, with crisp checkering still with sharp points.  You have to look very hard to find light signs of handling. The gun has been tested and is extremely accurate and perfectly regulated (factory proof target included).

It is the crème de la crème double rifle for the most dangerous game on Earth. If you are comparing others on the market, note this one already has the German claw mounts and scope, a big extra expense for those that don’t and a big savings of the hassle factor of getting them purchased and installed correctly… and then sighted in.  But most of all, the wood figure and color, along with the metal colors, gives this rifle a particular personality that draws you to it, found only rarely on a few guns.

As to the cartridge, according to Cartridges of the World, 11th Edition:
“(the .470 N.E. has) plenty of killing power for any of the heavy or dangerous varieties of game…it is one of the best choices in any new double-barrel rifle because of ammunition and component availability.”

MSR is $14,900.00 without claw mount and scope, add another $2,170 ($1,500 claw mount installed, $1270 scope) for a total of $17,670.  Price for the package is $13,750 and it is already sighted in.
