MASSIVE 1800s British TOWER Dragoon’s Pistol
Cavalry Pistol Converted from Flintlock to Percussion
Here we present an antique Percussion Dragoon Pistol, made circa 1812 and converted to percussion in the 1840s. This pistol was designed to be a fighting pistol utilized from atop a horse. It is massive and sturdy. The lock is marked with a crown and “TOWER” on the outside. The inside of the lock is marked “Crown/B/3” and “Crown/12”. The barrel has British proof marks on the left side of the breech. The barrel tang is numbered “24”. The left side of the barrel is also marked “IL”, partially obscured by the stock. Underneath, the barrel tang is marked “W” and the back of the breech plug is marked “83”. The rear of the pommel is marked “2E”, possibly a regimental marking.
The overall condition of the pistol is very good. The metal parts bear an untouched dark patina. The markings are clear and legible. The stock shows signs of having been used extensively, but is quite solid. The bore is in very good condition. The action is strong.
