Description:
Serial #206365, .22 Short (in cartridge holders), 24" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very mild freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This is a splendid rifle that has a 3-08 dated, “SA" marked Hoffer-Thompson .22 caliber barrel and 1906-made, Springfield Model 1903 receiver. The metal retains 92-95% of the original blue finish, which has silvered slightly at the muzzle, as well as faded mildly along the top radius of the receiver. The bolt has a commensurate amount of original blue remaining, but has silvered extensively along the bearing surfaces, and on the handle. The rear sight is a 1910 retrofit and graduated to 2,850 yds., but the front sight blade is original. The high wood, walnut stock and handguard (without sighting channel) have an excellent original oil finish with scattered small handling marks, and a crisp “K" cartouche (used only on .22 caliber rifles made at Springfield between 1906 and 1910). Additionally, there is no firing proof on the underside of the wrist, which is correct for Hoffer-Thompson rifles. An original, 1918 dated Model 1907 leather sling is fitted, and in fine shape with some minor flaking and crazing at the edges and flex points. Also included are five original, and functional, Hoffer-Thompson .22 cartridge holders in a correct and original Hoffer-Thompson clip. This is a fantastic, and rare, original Model 1903 Gallery Practice Rifle, and comes with even rarer original accessories. It rates fine-near excellent condition, and would make a stellar addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
