Description:
This shorter version of the famous British musket was made when Napoleon was terrorizing Europe in the late 1700's, most likely manufactured by Richard Wilson of London, one of the more prominent contract gun makers for the crown during that period. It is 54 inches overall, .75 caliber, and has a 38 inch barrel. On the brass butt-plate it is marked "ROYAL HAMPSTEAD ASSOCIATION". The lock is marked "WILSON", with a crown over 2 stamp, and the barrel is proffed, crown over GP. The lock works perfectly, and while the stock has had some repairs, the gun is in very good condition overall. These "Brown Bess" muskets were feared around the world by Great Britain's opponets for over a hundred years, and were still being used by Mexico as late as 1850.
