Description:
I believe this may be a folk art cane, but well done by a skilled artist. The handle is done with bone topped with an Ivory cap. The handle is about 3 1/4" long, with a brass band at the collar. It has well carved design that surrounds the handle. Additionally the shaft has been ebonized in black to give a dressy and elegant appearance. The overall length is 36 1/4" and the condition is very good. It is American, ca 1880. The handle and wood are all stable with no cracks and ready to use. No gentleman would be caught on the town without a strong cane to fend of brigands and dogs.
