Description:
John Wanamaker started the first Departent Store in the USA in Philadelphia in the latter 1800's. He was very prominent in Phila society and dominated the retail industry well into the 20th century. This Francotte appears to be an early post WW-2 gun. It's a 12 bore with 27 1/2 inch barrels bored IC&IM and has selective ejectors. Bores and mechanics are perfect. The blue is all there and the case colors are strong at 90-95%. I don't think the gun has been fired but am not certain. As stated, the barrels are inscribed--MADE FOR JOHN WANAMAKER-PHILADELPHIA. A lightweight 12, weighing 6-7 with a 14 5/8 inch LOP to a checkered butt. Attractive wood and nicely scroll engraved. The gun has factory sling swivels. I'm told by G&H that they have seen other guns over the years that were made for Wanamaker, including Purdeys. They believe most were sourced through Abercrombie & Fitch. This gun would be a delightful field gun with light weight and good chokes for all upland game. It's a very good value at $2250 delivered in the lower 48.
