Description:
Jake and Sam Hawken Plains Rifle.  Fully stocked in walnut with a small, dove-tailed period of use repair at the midstock in curly maple (see photos).  Barrel is 42" long, octagonal, quite heavy, and is 7-groove rifled in .54 caliber (.53 Hawken).

Please Note:  My original photographs of this rifle were edited in Photoshop in an attempt to draw clarity to salient features such as the "J & S HAWKEN" stamping.  I received some feedback that the images made the barrel look red, rusty, and undesirable.  I have attempted to provide a more accurate representation by adjusting the images more truthful to the character of the gun.  If this is a rifle that you're considering purchasing or making a recommendation for someone to purchase, I expect you will want to make a personal inspection, which I am happy to arrange by appointment.

Original flint lock is converted to percussion.  Stock has been refinished during its period of use and shows somewhat less wear than does the barrel, which shows some pitting. From a long-time Saint Louis collection that has not been on the market since 1964. This rifle is rare--and so is your opportunity to own it.

Please see photographs to examine this plains workhorse more closely. Stamped on the barrel's top flat you'll see "S & J HAWKEN" and the barrel shows some pitting and expected rust.  Offered at $48,500.  To examine in person in the Roanoke, VA area, please call for an appointment.
