This is an incredibly Scarce Winchester Firearm. This Winchester Model 1873 Deluxe .22 Short Takedown Rifle is probably one of the absolute rarest models you could ever encounter. This rifle is the only one I know of to fully letter. The letter states "Rifle, 22 Short, 1/2 Octagon barrel, Plain trigger, Checkered stock with pistol grip, Shotgun "pin on" (pin on refers to the takedown feature), and casehardened. The rifle was returned to the factory mulitple times over the next few years. This Rifle was once part of the James Gordon Collection, and supposedly is featured on page 523 in his book "Winchesters New Model of 1873". One interesting fact about this Winchester is that they are so uncommon to find that many collectors arent aware that they were even manufactured! I've talked to a few collectors and theyve never seen a Deluxe 1873 takedown rifle. Not many books even mention anything with 1873 takedowns. This is truly for the significant Winchester collector, a find another moment. Their never found. The condition of this rifle is a silvered out frame. The barrel has a pleasing patina turned finish to it. The hammer retains fine traces of original case hardened finish. The bore is fine with some mild pitting. The action function flawlessly. The wood stocks have a nice fit to them and have much of the original high gloss piano finish present, some areas have it fading. All the markings are fine. This is a great Winchester and to some Winchester Collector's could be considered the "holy grail" of 1873's. If you have any questions, feel free to call or email me. I'll get back to you ASAP.
