Description:
This is a Weatherby rifle in .300 Weatherby Magnum built on an FN Mauser action. The serial number is 1958 vintage. Correspondence with Dean Rumbaugh, historian at Weatherby, provided the following information: The barrel is a standard 1950s's era example stamped "Chrome Bore" and numbered to match the action. The Mauser action is stamped"FN-Belgian 1951" as is appropriate for the period. Since Weatherby did not sell barrels as individual items and the numbers match, this rifle was custom built in Weatherby's shop in South Gate, California. The rifle is not a standard Weatherby production gun and as such Weatherby kept no records. The Mashburn trigger that is present was typically used on such rifles of the period. In 20163, this rifle was taken to Mike Clare at Silver Bullet Gunworks in Sparks, Nevada. He reconditioned and reblued the rifle, repaired the stock, and installed the current butt pad. This refinish is in Excellent conditon. The bore is bright and shiny. This rifle is equipped with a Redfield 1 piece scope mount with 1 inch rings that are included in the price of the rifle. The mount is in Excellent condition. The rings show some wear on the edges and around the screws. The mounts will not be removed and the rifle repriced without them.
