Description:
40" round barrel with three barrel-bands and cleanout screw on bolster. Tulip-shaped ramrod.  Lock marked U. S. / NORFOLK, and with eagle. Both lock and breech dated 1863. V P /Eaglehead proof on top left side of chamber. H on left side of chamber. W.W.WELCH / NORFOLK. Ct stamped on left side of stock across from lockplate. Clean catrouche. Buttplate stamped US. One of a contract of 18,000 muskets. All metalwork bright finished. Excellent bore. With matching ,21-inch overall length, US-marked bayonet.
