Description:
For sale, a very rare first year production Springfield Model of 1922 serial number 49!  The Model of 1922 was made for a total of 2 years with 2020 made and the survival rate is quite small.  Most of the 1922s were modified into the M1 or M2 configuration in later years.  As you can see in the pictures this particular rifle has quite a lot of the original factory blue finish remaining.  The bore is also in excellent condition with strong rifling.  The barrel is dated May of 1922 and is the original barrel.  The bolt is the original unmodified non-adjustable type that came polished from the factory and serial numbered to the gun.  It also came from the factory with no cocking piece to speed up the lock time, and has a two firing pin arrangement that hits the cartridge rim at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions for increased reliability.  This example has been restocked at some point with an attractive stock and also has been drilled and tapped for two different types of scopes.  It appears that it was originally drilled and tapped for a Lyman or Unertl scope with one base mounted on the barrel and one on the front receiver ring.  This was a factory option for NRA sales but there is no way to tell when and where this was done on this particular rifle.  Those holes in the barrel were filled and then drilled and tapped again for a Fecker scope, which uses different bases and barrel locations.  These are the blocks currently mounted on this rifle.  The stock is a heavy target type stock with a large cheek rest, a pistol grip wrist, and a checkered brass buttplate.  It is made of a really nice piece of American Walnut and has a inlaid Maple star in the butt on the left side.  It is in great shape overall with no cracks or repairs.  The rear Lyman receiver sight is in excellent condition and all the adjustments work perfectly.  This Model of 1922 Springfield still has the original extended magazine that came factory, and also has a U.S. Model 1907 leather sling made by the Chicago Belting Company mounted on it.  This is a really neat Model of 1922 being that it is a 2 digit serial number and has some period custom work.  We also have the Fecker scope and case that was used on this rifle for sale available separately or can be bought with this rifle to keep them together.  The Fecker scope has pretty clear optics and functions perfectly.  The Fecker scope and case is $400.
