Nimschke Engraved Colt Model 1861 Navy with Carved Checkered Ivory Grips with a Mexican Eagle. This particular Colt when I first saw it, I wasn't sure if it was factory engraved or Nimschke. I had to really closely view it but after really looking at it, it shows every evidence of being Nimschke engraved. L.D. Nimschke in my opinion was the best engraver of the period. This Colt has his deluxe engraving. There are remnants of gold plate on the hammer and loading lever. This Colt is in very fine overall condition. Sn#17,452. The 7 1/2" barrel is engraved with many beautiful flowing scroll patterns. The left side of the frame is marked "Colts Patent" and has a beautiful scrollwork around it covering both sides of the entire frame. The brass trigger guard and backstrap has engraving as well. The barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder are all matching serial numbers. The brass grip strap still retains some of the original silver plate finish remaining. The action works excellent. The cylinder scene retains 98% visible. The grips have no cracks or chips. They are completely tight and solid. Overall this is an excellent example of a Engraved Colt 1861.
