AMES U.S.N. MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION BOX LOCK PISTOL DATED 1845. .54 caliber smoothbore 6” barrel. Formerly known as the Model 1843 Navy pistol. All original and matching with desirable Mexican War dated lock. Lock stamped “USN/1845” and “N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD/MASS”. Brass mounts and steel swivel ramrod. Very good overall with good markings. Metal a light grey patina with minor salt and peppering on the lock. Stock with moderate wear and cartouche no longer visible. Barrel band stock pin missing and hammer with small chip out of lip.
