RARE REMINGTON-BEALS U.S. MARTIAL .44 CAL. PERCUSSION ARMY REVOLVER CA. 1861. All original down to the last screw and with matching serial numbers in the 1xxx range. 8 inch barrel with stamped “BEALS PATENT SEPT. 14. 1858/MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS’ ILION.N.Y.”. Only about 1900 manufactured in 1861-2. Few survive in anything but heavily used condition and this example may be the best one. Certainly it is the best we know of. 90% plus blue on barrel and cylinder and frame a grey patina. All correct U.S. Army Sub-Inspector stamps on appropriate parts and has two excellent cartouches on the grip flats (CGC & WAT). Excellent screws and grips with all the finish. Perfect working order and bright about mint bore and chambers and all excellent nipples. Excellent Ray Walsh collection provenance sold at Bourne’s sale of his collection in 1987 and not on the market since. The late Eric Vaule in his catalog description for the sale believed it the finest example known.
