Description:
U.S. military inspected Civil War Army model Spencer rifle. Serial #23650, manufactured 1863-1864. .52 caliber bore is very good, will clean better. Six-groove rifling. Metal overall is a smooth dark grey with mixed brown patina. Clearly marked on top of frame "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". Mechanics are tight and crisp. Wood overall is very good with age handling wear, and some trivial dings. Two clear inspector's cartouches visible on left side of buttstock. Also sub-inspector's initial left side of frame. Complete with original rear sight, sling swivels and loading tube. U.S. government inspected Civil War Spencer rifles are becoming harder to encounter.
