Description:
Rare cased and inscribed Bacon removable trigger guard pocket revolver, estimated 300 manufactured, see Flayderman's #8A-017. .32 rimfire, 6-shot, 4" octagon barrel. Unusual design of trigger guard which unscrews, cylinder must be removed for loading. Practically all of the original nickle plate still remaining overall, a few areas worn from age handling. Scroll-engraved frame, only later part of barrel address still visible. Mechanics are tight. Serial #108 matching. Beautiful original factory 2-piece ivory grips, the right panel inscribed "APRIL 19, 1861.". Accompanied by 3 pages of history "APRIL 19, 1861 : FIRST BLOOD IN THE CIVIL WAR. ON APRIL 19, 1861, THE FIRST BLOOD OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR IS SHED WHEN A SECESSIONIST MOB IN BALTIMORE ATTACKS MASSACHUSETTS TROOPS BOUND FOR WASHINGTON, D.C. FOUR SOLDIERS AND 12 RIOTERS WERE KILLED.". This beautiful cased inscribed revolver bearing this historical event dated on the ivory grip, along with being nickle-plated and one of the most revolutionary revolvers of it's time being first manufactured in 1861 must have been quite the special presentation for a notable person of the day. Housed in the original rare casing for such a revolver, simple constructed wooded case, rich chocolate-brown velvet lining. One interior compartment holding 6-unfired .32 caliber rimfire cartridges and the original key. Interior is very good condition overall with age wear. Outside of casing is fine, a small 1" chip to the bottom front lower corner. The lock needs to be freed up. Bottom has the original green-felt liner. A unique casing with an additional draw that pulls out at the bottom front, original brass hardware. The drawer holds an old article concerning the events of April 1861 as well. Appears to have had a brass plate of the lid which is long gone, it may have told us who the owner of this historic revolver would have been? A rare and quite historic piece of American Civil War history.
