Augustus Shapleigh became a principal in the establishing of a hardward store during 1843 in St. Louis, MO.  He eventually took over with Saunders Norvell what, after several name and partnership changes, became the Norvell-Shapleigh hardware store. The store lasted until Mr. Shapleigh retired (1910) and Mr. Saunders Norvell sold out to another company (1918).  This company, after also several name and ownership changes, eventually sold out in 1960 to a larger hardware store company.

Norvell-Shapleigh imported guns from various makers under the Blue Diamond name.  This is one of those guns made under contract in America by one of the known gun makers of that time.  It would be classified as what we call a "hardware store" gun today although much better made than most of this type of gun.

Great for hardware store item collectors or gun guys who collect early American shotguns,   Retail value $500.00,   Sal priced at $340.00
