This is a prewar pre Pearl Harbor gun that is dated 11-41 it is also a “lend lease” British proofed example that contains all correct and we believe original parts. S/N 405607 placing it in the known serial number range of the the 38,0001 lend lease Garands. The main drawing numbers are: Trigger housing: D28290-5-SA Hammer: C46008-1SA in the white Safety: 046015-6-SA Receiver: D 2291-13 SA Operating Rod: D 35382 3 SA Bolt D28287-2SA Heat Lot: RE4D (correct 1 month time frame November of 1941) The barrel and gas chamber show 80% “sparkolite” finish including the front sight screw seal. The Chamber is bright The bore is very good and gauges a 1 at the muzzle It has the correct early “flush nut” rear sight. The stock cartouche is box with SA over GHS and the circular crossed cannons mark. The circle P inspection stamp in on the grip There is an area of missing finish on the left side of the forward handguard (photo). The barrel shows British export BNP 30-06 2.494 18 tonnes per with square followed by the crossed swords with a 2 (1952) in the bottom position. The tonnes per is stamped over the SA 11-41 marking. The British export stamp shows ghosting constant with stamping through the existing original finish. The existing finish overall is in very good to excellent condition with less than normal wear showing. There are no remnants of the Red band that was reportedly painted on these rifles to indicate non standard caliber. Please note there is a coating of Rust Pruffe causing some glare.
