Description:
Rare DELUXE Colt Lightning .22 Rifle. Serial number is 1214 made the second year of .22 caliber Lightning production in 1888. This is a FULL FANCY documented factory Deluxe Lightning. Features include 24 inch octagon barrel, Fancy Pistol Grip and checkered stock and blued and case hardened frame. The receiver looks like original nickel to us. Excellent Colt reserch Letter that's included in the sale. Condition is all original with no extra holes or other non-factory alterations. Sharp original checkering and XX fancy stock and fore end. Never refinished or freshened in any way. Excellent wood to metal fit everywhere. Original Colt hard rubber butt plate with a very small chip at the toe. This rifle is totally original throughout. CLEAR and Sharp Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the receiver. There is some honest usage wear and some fine surface rust on the outide of the octagon barrel with nearly all of the original barrel blue remaining. Sharp and clear Colt barrel address. Nice bore with some light frost in the grooves. We rate the bore a 7 out of 10. Correctly C coded tang sight (correct for a .22 Lightning) with rear sight dove tail blank that both look to have been with the rifle since new. This rifle was shipped to Hartley and Graham in New York City circa 1888 in a one gun shipment. Obviously a special order for someone prominent back in the day. Hartley and Graham were the original big gun dealers from back in the 1800's. There is some very interesting history vailable online about this very cool NY City retailer. A great rifle with great history that is documented. This Colt is an Antique and Proof of age only is required for purchase. A very cool and original Deluxe Lightning .22 indeed.
